As of September 1, 2001, Hukk Engineering and Avantron Technologies have integrated to become the Sunrise Telecom Broadband Division. In January, 2002, Sunrise Telecom announced the acquisition of the CaLan Cable TV Test business from Agilent Technologies. CaLan products incorporate DigiSweep technology, the industry's fastest, high resolution, digital services-compatible sweep. The acquisition will result in a merger of the CaLan Cable TV Test business with the Sunrise Telecom Broadband family, further solidifying the commitment of Sunrise Telecom to provide leadership to the Cable Broadband Test Industry.
Ralph Gerbasi, founder and CEO of Avantron Technologies, has been named Vice President and General Manager of the Broadband Division and will oversee daily management and operations of the new division. Cliff Brown, founder and President of Hukk Engineering, is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Broadband Division; he will focus on exploiting new technologies and market applications within CATV. Sydney Fluck, founder of CaLan and recent addition to the Sunrise Telecom team, becomes Vice President, Strategic Product Planning, Broadband Division.
Since 1989 Hukk Engineering has been involved in the design, manufacture and implementation of many leading edge digital products for use in the telecommunications industry. Hukk Engineering pioneered the use of bit error rate testing for digitally modulated signals in a CATV network with the introduction of the CR1151 two years ago. The CR1200 was the first affordable bit error rate monitor for QAM modulated signals. The CM1000 is a handheld, battery operated test set that fully analyzes DOCSIS cable modem installations.
Avantron established itself in the CATV test market with its breakthrough AT-2000R field portable CATV spectrum analyzer that is currently used by MSOs worldwide. Avantron is also known for its Return Path Monitoring System used extensively throughout the industry. Recently, they introduced another breakthrough: the 2000 series RQ and HQ analyzers that combine lab quality 64/256 QAM digital analysis with true spectrum analyzer performance.
Sunrise Telecom acquired Hukk Engineering in July of 1999 and further expanded its CATV test equipment offering with the integration of Avantron Technologies in January of 2001. The new Broadband Division headquarters is located in Anjou, Quebec, Canada with additional Engineering and Sales/Marketing operations in Norcross, GA.
Sunrise Telecom, Inc., founded in 1991, is leading the telecom portable test equipment industry with innovations such as advanced graphical interfaces, highly integrated compact handheld designs, and field upgrades by use of software memory cards. The company is based in San Jose, California and distributes its products through a worldwide network of sales representatives and distributors.
