Request Form - CM1000 Firmware Upgrade
Upgrade to Version 3.31 or Version 5.31
Two different firmware upgrades are available for your CM1000 meter, depending on the specific model and hardware upgrades that you have installed. Please review the Meter Requirements and Compatibility sections below before attempting to upgrade your CM1000s.
Introduction
The most popular DOCSIS Cable Modem Signal Level Meters now offer a new VoIP+™ option to verify, test and troubleshoot IP telephony services. Enable your technicians to ensure that quality of voice services exceed your subscriber’s expectations. Provide the voice quality your subscribers expect, with the safety margin that you need, by analyzing the Voice Data MOS and R-Factor on your DOCSIS network.
DOCSIS 1.1 BPI+ & Packet Cable™ Compatible
- MOS Voice Quality Measurements on the Upstream & Downstream
- Uses DOCSIS 1.1 QoS Service Flows
- Dynamic QoS—no Provisioning
- Measures MOS, R-Factor, Lost Packets, Latency and Jitter
- Compare “best effort” to QoS performance
- Uses Actual Voice UDP/RTP VoIP Frames
See the VoIP+ datasheet for detailed information on the testing capabilities.
Firmware version 5.31 adds enhancements to the CM1000 and the VoIP+ MOS Voice Quality Testing Option:
- Dynamic service flows
- Indication that a digital certificate is installed
- Progress bar on the VoIP+ test screen
- Minor bug fixes
Updates are required for PC-IP software and the realMOS server application
Meter Requirements
- The enhancements in version 5.31 require that your meter be DOCSIS 1.1.
- CM1000s shipped after Sept. 1 2004 are DOCSIS 1.1.
- Meters that have been sent to the factory Service Center since January 1, 2005 have been upgraded to DOCSIS 1.1.
- You cannot upgrade non-DOCSIS 1.1 CM1000s to version 5.31 in the field.
- Sunrise recommends that all B base stations and V2 or newer modules that are not DOCSIS 1.1 be sent to service for a full upgrade. Contact Customer Service (800-297-9726), the cost is very modest.

Compatibility Details
Version 5.31 can only be used on CM1000s that are DOCSIS 1.1. BPI+ will only be operational if a digital certificate is installed. The digital certificate can only be installed at the factory or service center.
Version 3.31 should be used on older “A” base station CM1000s and B base stations which have not been upgraded to the newer color keypad (blue function keys).
Contact customer service (800-297-9726) to upgrade your meter to DOCSIS 1.1 and firmware version 5.31 in our Service Center. The DOCSIS 1.1 and digital certificate installation and upgrade are included in the standard cost of a calibration or repair.

If your keypad has blue function keys (F1 through F4):
- Power up CM1000
- Press SHIFT and then the MENU key
- Select the General Setup Icon and press ENTER
- Read the third line on the display:
- The first 3 digits are the firmware version [#.##]

- The last character is the module version [1, 2, 3]
Steps to Check DOCSIS Versions
If your CM1000 has white function keys, it must be returned to service for an upgrade to 5.x firmware. If your CM1000 has blue function keys, check the DOCSIS version:
- Download and install version 5.12 PC-IP Software on your PC - see download link below.
- Connect your CM1000 to the PCs RS-232 serial port and run the new PC-IP software.
- Open the GENERAL SETUP icon and click "GET".
- Read the first line "Base Firmware" [firmware version] [base station type] [module type] (highlighted in green). Note your version in the chart below for appropriate firmware upgrades.
- Read the second line of the SYSTEM INFO section (highlighted yellow in the picture to the right).
- If your CM is DOCSIS 1.1 the "H/W Firmware" version number will be followed by a “V” and “DOCSIS 1.1”. If your meter is not equipped with DOCSIS 1.1, the H/W Firmware will display the version number only. PC-IP Version 5.10 is backward compatible with older versions of CM1000 running firmware version 4.x or higher. If PC-IP fails to return new information for your CM1000 when you click on the GET button, the current CM1000 firmware is not compatible and the CM1000 will need to be sent to service for the upgrade.
Download PC-IP version 5.16 to check your CM1000s
Note: Minor changes to the FTP server setup are also required with version 5.12.
