CM2800

Sweep System & Cable Modem Network Analyzer     New 2.0 Enhancements

The CM2800 sets a new standard for CATV plant maintenance. For the first time, a high-resolution, non-intrusive sweep function has been combined with triple play service and network analysis to validate the network’s capacity to deliver next-generation services. This comprehensive tool is the only instrument necessary to help reduce outages and optimize the crowded upstream for DOCSIS 3.0.

With a truly modern sweep system that provides exceptional graphics display, the CM2800 enables operators to detect the smallest of impairments before they affect customer experience. Its intuitive user interface, automated measurements and familiar Windows CE operating system simplify and speed plant maintenance.

Highlights

  • Provides cable TV technicians with a next-generation plant maintenance tool
  • Helps deliver reliable, distortion-free service by ensuring proper frequency response and levels throughout the network
  • Easy-to-use WinCE system minimizes training and maximizes testing, accuracy and consistency
  • Compatible with existing CaLan sweep systems already in the field
  • Interfaces to Sunrise Telecom’s web-based realGATE management system, providing a full array of tools for tracking assets, analyzing test data and implementing workforce management
  • High-resolution, true non-interfering 5 to 1100 MHz downstream sweep system
  • Fast high-resolution 5 to 200 MHz upstream sweep with ingress detection

Applications

Sweep System

CM2800 qualifies the network for today’s expanding subscriber services, checking both downstream and upstream paths and ensuring proper frequency response and level. This may be done from any point in the network with CM2800’s ability to save test results and use the results as a reference trace.

Upstream Sweep

The CM2800 upstream transmitter covers the frequency range from 5 to 200 MHz and transmitter output levels of 10 to 50 dBmV. Although diplexers limit the frequency response of the amplifiers, upstream lasers can be tested to their full 200 MHz capability.

When a referenced sweep is performed, the difference between the reference and the current sweep is displayed, thus allowing the user to view the difference in the frequency response and level from the reference point to the current test location.

Downstream Sweep

Un-paralleled sweep speed, accuracy and resolution combined with non-interference make the CM2800 and 3010 the ideal downstream sweep solution. With 5 to 1100 MHz frequency range the user can view the utilized bandwidth and band edges of any network. Display controls allow the user to set start & stop or center frequency and span or scroll through any portion of the spectrum.

Simultaneous display of the low & high pilot with pass/fail limits and the sweep trace make network setup and balancing simple and fast. Markers allow the user to view the level at any frequency and to make Tilt and Peak-to-Valley measurements between the marker settings.

The CM2800 supports DOCSIS and Annex B & C. The CM2800E supports DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS and Annex A, B & C.

2.0 Enhanced Spectrum Analyzer

Measurement

  • Measurement provides a spectral display of the current Frequency Range, Level Scale, Trace Type and with markers per the Analyzer settings.
  • Function keys at the left provide access to each of the Analyzer’s setting.

Frequency

  • Frequency provides Channel or Frequency tuning with Spans up to 1,000 MHz.
  • Channels or any frequency may be entered. Alternatively, Start & Stop frequencies may be selected or entered to the nearest 10 kHz.
  • 1 CH mode allows quick navigation. Changing Span or Start Stop settings

Scale

  • Scale displays the current scale settings.
  • The user may set the dB per division, attenuation and reference level. The default setting is to couple the attenuation and Reference level to prevent overload.
  • Detector selection controls the display trace, offering Peak, Minimum, Average or Alternating. Alternating provides Peak and Minimum on alternating pixels.

Trace

  • Trace provides access to the receiver RBW, Video Bandwidth and sweep rate.
  • RBW increments are 1 MHz, 300 KHz, 100 kHz & 30 kHz.
  • Video bandwidth and Sweep Rate control settings will be developed in a future release.
  • Peak Hold or Minimum Hold may be selected to determine the data to be displayed on the spectrum trace. Trace averaging & Smoothing are also provided.

Markers

Markers provides access to select the markers to be displayed – vertical, horizontal or both. The selected marker (by tapping on that marker’s display box) may be automatically moved to the Peak, the Minimum, the next peak to left (Prev) or the next peak to the right (Next).

2.0 Sweep Enhancements

Automatic Gain & Slope Offset

  • In addition to the smoothing and Averaging, both Manual and Automatic Gain & Slope Offsets are added.
  • Manual Offsets may be applied to live sweep results.
  • Automatic Gain & Slope Offsets may be selected by tapping the Trace Icon on the toolbar. A pop-up window provides controls for Averaging and smoothing, Gain and Slope Offsets.

  • Check the Automatic Gain & Slope Offset box to have the Gain and Slope Offset automatically set based on the Location Limits.
  • The CM2800 will compare the limits set for the current Location to the limits set for the location of the Reference File and then offset the test results by the appropriate Gain and Slope Offset.

HUM Measurements

  • A feature is added to the SLM function to allow HUM measurements on a CW signal.
  • HUM may be measured on any CW signal. Tune to the appropriate CW signal in the SLM mode and the HUM function button will be activated and measure the composite HUM (< 1 KHz) present on the system.
