Dispersion Test Module (see
latest press release)
As metro and long haul networks upgrade to OC-192/STM-64 or 10 GbE, dispersion in fibers is critical to measure and compensate to avoid increased transmission error rates. With Sunrise Telecom's Dispersion Test Module (DTM), users can now test single mode fibers quickly and easily for both Chromatic Dispersion (CD) and Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) with a single instrument. Simply plug in the source at one end of the link to be tested, connect the receiver at the other, and you are ready for a complete dispersion measurement of the fiber in less than one minute.
Sunrise’s DTM uses photon counting detection technology and direct time of flight technique to measure the group delay and and Chromatic Dispersion at each wavelength Photon counting technology uses much lower intensity and shorter optical pulses while providing greater time and wavelength accuracy. The source consists of a broadband LED, resulting in a rugged unit with no moving parts. Photon counting is uniquely adapted to provide this advantage to the ITU approved pulse delay method.
PMD measurements are also done on this module via the ITU-approved fixed-analyzer
method.
Advantages of the Sunrise DTM
- Single unit to measure both CD and PMD
- Single-port, single-fiber, one connection, one button measurement
- Fast measurement time - Both CD and PMD in less than 1 minute
- High Dynamic Range (40 dB) and temporal precision
- Both C and L band analyzed by one instrument
- Optimized for the field environment
- Cost-effective
