Free Battery Replacement Program for STT Power Supplies

Sunrise Telecom has determined that STT power supplies using old Li-ION battery packs may fail unexpectedly, posing a safety risk from failure to fire hazard. This battery replacement program has been announced on the following dates:

  • February 9, 2009
  • June 1, 2009

The following STT power supplies qualify for a free battery pack replacement: STT-1505, STT-1505A and STT-1525; shipped before March 2008.

Sunrise Telecom has been voluntarily replacing the affected batteries and has initiated a worldwide exchange program to provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery, at no cost. We took this action as part of our commitment to provide the highest quality of service to our customers. We have proactively notified our customers about this issue and are replacing all affected battery packs, free of charge, independent of the warranty status of the product.

Sunrise Telecom recommends that affected batteries be removed from the product immediately, properly disposed according to local regulation, register to this replacement program, and that the STT be used on AC power only, until the replacement battery is received.

  3. Are there any immediate actions I should take if my equipment is affected by this recall?
    Yes. You should immediately cease all use of affected products. They should be unplugged from AC power now. Contact us and follow the recall instructions that apply to the particular model you have.
  4. My system has an STT-1505 or 1505A, what should I do?

  5. Can I send the power supply back to the factory to get the battery removed?
    There are several regulations with regards the transportation of Li-Ion batteries that prevent us from issuing a return of merchandize authorization (RMA). Please register your product for the replacement program and we will get back to you to address your specific case.
  6. My system has an STT-1525, what should I do?
    This power supply module is fitted with a field removable Li-ION battery pack which MUST be removed immediately and disposed of properly (recycled), according to local regulations. Please register online or contact us to provide you with the appropriate procedure.
  7. My system has an STT-1501 power supply, what should I do?
    No action is required
  8. My system has an STT-1521 power supply, what should I do?

  9. I have a spare STT-1505 (1505A or 1525) module that I’m not using. Do I have to follow the procedure?
    Yes. These power supply modules are fitted with Li-ION battery packs which MUST be removed immediately and disposed off properly, according to local regulations. Please register them to our free replacement program.
  10. I always use my STT system plugged to AC (seldom use it on battery), do I have to get the battery removed anyways?
    Yes. These power supply module are fitted with Li-ION battery pack which MUST be removed immediately and disposed of properly, according to local regulations. Please register online or contact us to provide you with the appropriate procedure.
  11. Will the STT run without its battery?
    Battery packs are meant to be a backup power source for uninterrupted operation. Once the battery is properly removed, the STT can be used on AC power only without any problem.
  12. What should I do with the battery once removed from the instrument?
    Once the battery pack is removed from the STT-1525, it should be disposed of immediately, following all applicable local regulations for Li-ION batteries. DO NOT throw it into the garbage or recyclable bin.   13. Where do I send the battery pack after it is removed?
    Li-ION batteries need to be recycled locally as transportation restrictions may apply. Once the battery pack is removed from the STT-1525 it should be disposed of immediately, following all applicable local regulations for Li-ION batteries. DO NOT throw it into the garbage or recyclable bin.   17. When should I expect the new batteries be available?
    Replacement battery packs are currently available for immediate delivery. You MUST register your STT Power Supply following the procedures indicated on this page and we will contact you to coordinate the replacement or delivery of the new battery pack.

  19. Can I continue to use my current battery as a backup?
    No. To reduce the likelihood that a battery failure could cause damage, Sunrise Telecom strongly encourages all customers to immediately cease use of old batteries and contact our Customer Service center.
  20. What should I do if I have a battery that shows signs of overheating?
    If your battery shows signs of overheating, such as discoloration, deformity or leak, stop using the battery immediately and contact our Customer Service center..
  21. I've never had any problems with my battery. Should I have it replaced?
    If your battery pack or power supply has been identified as part of the replacement program, in the interest of safety, it MUST be replaced. You must contact our Customer Service center to register in the replacement program and receive the appropriate instructions.
  22. Are the new Batteries UN certified?
    Yes, the new STT Li-ion (secondary) battery packs include the latest safety features (construction and electronic monitoring) and have been tested according to UN38.3 and CE, complying with current safety and air transportation regulations. STT-1525’s battery packs (SA182) are marked as Class 9 due to its high capacity (Watt-hours).
  23. My STT is out of warranty, can I still apply for a new battery pack?
    Yes, the free replacement program is extended to all STT power supplies, regardless of their warranty status.
  24. Is this offer still valid?
